The bulb has a traditional aluminium base to complete the illusion. The ‘wooden bulb’ is currently only a handmade prototype, but has already won the prestigious Kyoto renaissance design competition, and the designers hopes it could go on sale soon. He previously worked for electronics maker Sharp, and his other projects include a wicker plant pot and a rocking chair designed for young people.
